Activate a map layer
You are assessing an area and want to place a thematic map layer over the base map: population density, noise, climate risk or public transport access.
Step 1: Navigate to the area
Use the search field to navigate to the property or area you want to study. Type an address, matrikkel number or place name, then click a result.
Alternatively, drag and zoom the map manually to the location you want.
Step 2: Open Map layer
Click Map layer in the left menu, or click the Map Layers button in the top right. The panel shows active layers and a Browse button that opens the full map layer catalogue.
Each card is a category. The number in the corner shows how many individual layers the category holds.
Step 3: Select a category
Click Buildings, for example. The panel now shows the sub-list with all individual layers in the category.
Each sub-layer has:
- A title and a short factual text about what the layer shows.
- A thumbnail of the style sheet.
- A star for marking favourites.
- A Read more link for the full description of the data source.
Step 4: Activate a layer
Click a layer in the sub-list to activate it. The layer is drawn on the base map immediately.
To return to the category catalogue, click the arrow at the top of the sub-list. To close the panel, use the X at the top of the panel.
Step 5: Combine several layers
You can have layers from several categories active at the same time.
Common combinations:

Step 6: Turn off a layer
Click the layer again in the sub-list to turn it off. Active layers are shown with a visual indicator. You can also search with Search Map Layers at the top of the panel to find a specific layer quickly.
Tips
- The Search Map Layers field searches across all categories. Type "skred" (landslide) or "radon" to find the right layer without browsing through the categories.
- Layers from WMS/WFS services (quick clay, landslides, NGU) can take a few seconds to load the first time.
