Akvakulturregisteret

Akvakulturregisteret is the public register of all aquaculture and fish farming licences in Norway, managed by Fiskeridirektoratet (the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries). The dataset brings together active and deleted sites, species and production purpose, capacity (MTB, maximum permitted biomass), escape statistics, environmental and current surveys, and a link to the licence holder in Brønnøysundregistrene (BRREG).

Each site has coordinates, a licence number, species and maximum permitted biomass, and is updated monthly with reported biomass figures. The dataset also includes oxygen environment monitoring (B and C surveys under NS 9410), current surveys under the NYTEK regulations, and production areas in the zoned traffic light system for salmon and trout.

For a developer in the coastal zone, Akvakulturregisteret is a mandatory check: active fish farming sites can trigger consideration zones in zoning plans and affect plans for jetties, subsea cables or marine industry. For home buyers along the fjords, proximity to a fish farm is relevant for noise, smell and visual conditions. The dataset is part of Placepoint's map layer for coast and fisheries.
