Daytime population

The number of people present in each grunnkrets (basic statistical unit) during working hours, typically based on workplaces, schools and commuting. The dataset is a modelled variant where commuter flows are included, so city centre areas often have a considerably higher daytime population than night-time population, and commuter suburbs the opposite. Supplied to Placepoint by Geodata AS, based on employment and commuting statistics from SSB.

For a commercial property agent or a retail analyst, daytime population is often more relevant than night-time population when assessing demand for retail, office buildings or restaurants at a given location. For a housing developer, the combination of low daytime population and high night-time population can be an interesting signal of a stable residential area. Read it together with Population, Age distribution, Households and Main Industry per Basic Statistical Unit to understand the local market structure.
