Mining rights

Areas covered by mining rights to state-owned minerals under the Minerals Act: exploration rights (UN) and extraction rights (UT). The dataset is managed by the Directorate of Mining (Direktoratet for mineralforvaltning, DMF) and distributed to Placepoint by Geodata AS.

Several mining rights can be issued for the same geographic area. The dataset therefore has overlapping polygons, but the individual rights have different priority based on the date they were received. An exploration right gives the first applicant the exclusive right to apply for an extraction right once the exploration is complete. Exploration rights are valid for 7 years, extraction rights for 10 years.

For a developer, mining rights are a legal boundary that can stop competing mineral projects in the same area. On sites with existing rights, there can be development restrictions that are not obvious from the municipality's zoning plan. Part of Placepoint's map layer for geology. How the dataset appears on the map​

The dataset is part of the Geology map layer. Assigned rights are found above all in mineral-rich areas in Northern Norway and parts of Western Norway. The Oslo area has almost no matches.

The filter lets you narrow by Rights holder, Right name and Easement.
