Building prohibition zones – power lines

Building prohibition zones along power lines are restricted areas around the transmission grid's lines, established under a licence pursuant to the Energy Act and either expropriation or a voluntary agreement with the affected landowners. Inside the zone, new buildings are not permitted, and all ground and construction work must be cleared in advance with the line owner (Statnett SF). A broader duty to notify also applies: construction work with machinery that can reach within 30 metres of the outermost live conductor requires notification and clearance.

The dataset is a nationwide overview from Statnett, compiled and distributed to Placepoint by Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat (NVE), the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. The dataset was previously called "Hensynssoner kraftledninger". For a developer, the dataset is a mandatory check on all sites near the transmission grid: as a rule, a site inside the zone is ruled out for development, and even sites just outside may face requirements for mitigating measures.
