Lake depth (bathymetry)

NVE's lake database with hydrological information on all lakes and ponds in Norway larger than 2500 m² (2.5 decares), around 250,000 water bodies in total. The dataset is built on Kartverket's N50 map series and is managed by Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat (NVE), the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. Each lake has a national sequence number used across NVE's systems to link it to other watercourse data.

Where bathymetry exists, depth contours are also shown on the map, but the measurement method, resolution and accuracy vary considerably. Some larger lakes are mapped at high resolution, while smaller ponds often have only one or two depth points. For a developer, lake data is relevant for property near water, watercourse regulation, drinking water abstraction and the design of jetties and links across water.
