Dyrkbar jord

Dyrkbar jord (arable land) is land that, through cultivation, can be brought up to the standard required of fully cultivated land, a latent food-soil reserve that is not necessarily in active production today. The dataset is derived from the historical digital soil classification map (DMK) and is updated automatically against the annual versions of AR5. It is managed by Norsk institutt for bioøkonomi (NIBIO). Land that was previously fully cultivated and has since reverted to forest is normally included; land that has been built on or permanently reallocated is excluded.

The dataset can be recorded under several underlying land cover types: surface-cultivated land, infield pasture, forest, open firm ground and bog, so it covers more than what appears as "fully cultivated" in AR5. For a developer, dyrkbar jord is a mandatory check at the zoning stage: soil protection under jordlova § 9 applies here too, and municipalities can require a dispensation or specific justification for development on arable land.
