Property Tax
Municipal property tax per property for 2026, for every municipality that levies property tax. Where the municipality has sent us its property tax list, the figure is the municipality's own, with the assessed value, tax base and tax rate as the list gives them. Otherwise Placepoint calculates an estimate from the property's value and the municipality's adopted rates and basic deduction. The estimate comes with the typical deviation for that municipality.
If you own or manage property, the dataset gives you the property tax per property without contacting each municipality. If you are an analyst, the median per grid cell shows where the tax burden is highest, and the difference between list and estimate shows where the figures are reliable.
How the estimates are calculated
Homes are valued with Skatteetaten's (the Norwegian Tax Administration) housing value model. The model uses housing type, floor area, year of construction and area from SSB (Statistics Norway) and from Kartverket's matrikkel (the Norwegian cadastre). Each municipality's tax rate, basic deduction and reduction factor come from the municipalities' own decisions and from SSB's KOSTRA figures for property tax. Where we have the municipality's list for an earlier year, the estimate is calibrated against it.
The estimates have been tested against the municipalities' own lists, using properties that were not part of the calculation. For homes valued with the housing value model, the typical deviation is NOK 562, and 71% of the estimates are within NOK 1,000 (59 municipalities). With the municipality's own list as the basis, the typical deviation is NOK 916, and 54% are within NOK 1,000 (110 municipalities). Without a list, the typical deviation is NOK 1,036 (119 municipalities). Holiday homes and commercial property without a list get a rougher estimate with no stated deviation.
Update frequency: Yearly, after the municipalities have published their tax lists for public inspection.
How the dataset appears on the map
The dataset is part of the map layer Property Tax under Pricing Info. A filled dot is a figure from the municipality's list, and a ring is an estimate. When you zoom out, the map shows the median property tax per grid cell.

What you see when you click
Amount, year, whether the figure comes from the municipality's list, category, municipality and matrikkelenhet (cadastral unit). For figures from a list, you also see the assessed value, tax base and tax rate. For an estimate, you see the typical deviation for the municipality. Zoomed out: the median property tax in the grid cell, the number of properties, how many of them pay property tax, and the share that comes from the municipalities' lists.
