Wealth

Average net wealth per grunnkrets (basic statistical unit) based on the annual tax assessment from Skatteetaten (the Norwegian Tax Administration), compiled and published by Statistisk sentralbyrå (SSB) and distributed to Placepoint by Geodata AS. Wealth figures reflect the tax base per household and include the assessed tax value of real property, financial assets, cars and bank deposits, less debt.

For commercial agents and valuers, the wealth level in an area is an important signal of purchasing power and the potential for high-value transactions. For residential developers, it is a factor in target group and pricing analysis. Read it together with Income and Income and wealth statistics (a more detailed distribution), and with the other socio-economic datasets such as Education Level, Age distribution and Households. It is part of Placepoint's map layer for demographics.

Update frequency: annual.

Aggregation level and statistical year

The figures are aggregated per grunnkrets, not individual data from the tax authorities. The annual tax assessment from Skatteetaten is the underlying basis, Statistisk sentralbyrå (SSB) compiles and publishes the figures per grunnkrets, and Geodata AS distributes them to Placepoint. You can therefore read the wealth level in an area, but not the wealth of a person or a household.

The dataset follows SSB's most recently published statistical year. SSB publishes the income and wealth statistics annually, about one year after the income year, and Placepoint updates the dataset when a new publication has been distributed. The current statistical year is stated on SSB's page for income and wealth statistics for households.
