Contaminated land

Properties registered with contaminated land, plus municipal and private/industrial landfills. The data is distributed by Miljødirektoratet (the Norwegian Environment Agency) and run as Grunnforurensningsdatabasen, the ground pollution database. The dataset comes from two main sources: planned mapping of sites with known or suspected pollution, and reports from building and excavation cases, orders to investigate, or the owner's own initiative.

For a developer, the dataset is a mandatory check at the zoning stage. Sites with registered pollution trigger a requirement for a remediation plan under the forurensningsloven (Pollution Control Act) and forurensningsforskriften chapter 2 (the Pollution Regulations), and can require extensive groundwork before construction. For valuers and estate agents, this is information that belongs in the sales prospectus and the valuation. Included in Placepoint's map layer for Pollution.
