Geological heritage
Geological sites of particular value: landscape features, geosites and natural monuments that document Norwegian geological history and diversity. The dataset comes from Norges geologiske undersøkelse (NGU) and includes both large landscape features (for example fjord arms, unusual valley formations) and smaller geosites (interesting rock types, fossil sites, old mines). Each geosite has a detailed fact sheet with full descriptions.
For a developer, the dataset is relevant in impact assessments for larger projects: geological conservation values can trigger consideration zones in zoning plans. For home buyers and the tourism industry, it also signals an area's attractiveness and natural qualities. Included in Placepoint's map layers for geology and nature.
