Primary Schools

All public and private primary and lower secondary schools in Norway, from Utdanningsdirektoratet's (the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training) Nasjonalt skoleregister (NSR), the national school register. The dataset includes school type (public/private), year groups, pupil numbers, contact details and a link to the school catchment area. Positional accuracy may deviate somewhat for some schools. NSR is updated against Brønnøysundregistrene's Virksomhets- og foretaksregister and Grunnskolens Informasjonssystem (GSI), which records the situation as of 1 October each year and publishes at the end of December.

For a housing developer, proximity to a primary school is one of the most important single variables in residential attractiveness for families with children. Together with School catchment areas, this determines which school a child is offered a place at. Capacity pressure in a school catchment area can trigger rekkefølgekrav (sequencing requirements) in reguleringsplaner (zoning plans) about extending a school or building a new one before an igangsettingstillatelse (permission to start work) is granted.
