High tide / storm surge
Modelled storm surge and sea level rise zones for the Norwegian coast, supplied to Placepoint by Geodata AS. The dataset contains mean high water (the average high tide over a 19-year tidal period) and storm surge events with return periods of 20, 200 and 1,000 years, each in a present-day version and in climate-adjusted versions for 2050 and 2100, based on the sea level rise estimates from Direktoratet for samfunnssikkerhet og beredskap, the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection.
For a developer working near the coast, this is a key risk factor: buildings that must withstand a 200-year surge under TEK17 safety class F2 have to be designed using climate-adjusted storm surge data. For valuers and estate agents in shoreline areas, the dataset is also relevant to valuation, because insurance premiums and banks' risk models increasingly use storm surge as an input variable. Read the dataset together with Flood areas, flood protection areas, and flood events, Shoreline management zone and Sea depth (bathymetry). It is included in the map layers for risk and coast and fisheries.
