Cultural heritage - Askeladden WMS

Cultural heritage - Askeladden WMS from Askeladden, the national cultural heritage database managed by Riksantikvaren (the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage). The dataset covers the full range of cultural heritage values:

  • Automatically protected cultural heritage sites (everything older than 1537, the Reformation cut-off) under the Cultural Heritage Act, section 4
  • Protected by decision or regulation: cultural heritage sites and cultural environments from more recent times
  • Temporarily protected sites and ongoing protection cases
  • Locally valuable buildings and environments without formal protection, but on a national or municipal list
  • Cultural heritage protected under the Planning and Building Act through consideration zones (hensynssoner)

For a developer, cultural heritage data is a mandatory check at the zoning stage. An automatically protected cultural heritage site on or below ground can in practice stop a development or trigger costly archaeological excavations under the Cultural Heritage Act, section 9. For home buyers, a protected building can mean both limits on changes and special rights, such as grants and exemptions from some building regulations. Part of Placepoint's map layer for nature (conservation interests). Related: Gule lister (the municipal registers held by Byantikvaren, the city antiquarian), Nature and cultural areas.
