Bolagsverket

Bolagsverket is the Swedish government agency that registers companies. All Swedish companies, associations and other types of business get their organisationsnummer here, and it is Bolagsverket that receives and archives årsredovisningar, the statutory annual accounts that limited companies and a range of other business types must file each year. The register covers far more than limited companies (aktiebolag): handelsbolag, kommanditbolag, ekonomiska föreningar and branches of foreign companies are all registered with Bolagsverket. The same applies to bostadsrättsföreningar, the housing associations behind Swedish co-operative flats, which are registered here and file their annual accounts here. That makes the register central to anything involving Swedish residential property organised as an association rather than as an owned unit.

Combify describes its own source of organisation data as the official Swedish company registers, organisationsnummer and filed annual accounts, and that is exactly the role Bolagsverket has in the Swedish system. The Norwegian counterpart is Brønnøysundregistrene (BRREG): both are the national agency that registers companies and receives annual accounts, and both registers are the starting point for finding ownership structure and who is behind a business. One difference is worth noting: BRREG gathers several adjacent registers under one roof, including Konkursregisteret and the register of beneficial owners. We have not assumed that Bolagsverket has the same breadth, so we only write about what we can document: organisationsnummer and årsredovisningar.

For a property developer or an estate agent, this register is where you go to find out who actually owns a Swedish fastighet through a company, or which bostadsrättsförening is behind a given flat. A Norwegian Placepoint user asks BRREG the same question every day, just about a residential jointly owned property or housing co-operative structure instead of a bostadsrättsförening.
