Geodata AS
Geodata AS is Norway's largest commercial supplier of geographic data and GIS technology, and the single supplier with the most datasets in Placepoint. The company is the Norwegian distributor of software from Esri (the world's largest GIS supplier) and compiles a range of ready-made thematic datasets such as climate risk, demographics, business statistics and commercial locations. These are drawn from a broad set of underlying sources: Statistisk sentralbyrå, Brønnøysundregistrene, Kartverket, NVE, NGU, Skatteetaten, Norges Eiendommer and municipal specialist systems.
For Placepoint users, this means that a good deal of the themes in the map layers for demographics, business, risk and energy is delivered as ready-compiled services from Geodata, not directly from each original data owner. This gives breadth and update frequency, but it also means that changes at an underlying data owner can take some time before they show up in Placepoint.
