Norges geologiske undersøkelse (NGU)
Norges geologiske undersøkelse (NGU), the Geological Survey of Norway, is the state agency for geological mapping and the management of geological resources. It supplies the foundation of geological data in Placepoint, from Bedrock (at the N50 and N250 scales) and superficial deposits to groundwater, Geological heritage and the national database for ground investigations, NADAG – ground investigations. The agency reports to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries and is based in Trondheim.
For a property developer, geological data matters at an early stage: rock type and superficial deposits determine bearing capacity, ease of excavation and ground conditions. Quick clay (managed by NVE, with NGU as the knowledge provider) can trigger extensive stability assessments. NADAG collects existing ground investigations, so you avoid new drilling where the data already exists. Mineral resources, ores and gravel and crushed rock deposits are also relevant for projects involving raw material extraction.
