Nasjonal kommunikasjonsmyndighet (Nkom)
Nasjonal kommunikasjonsmyndighet (Nkom) is the Norwegian regulator for the electronic communications sector: mobile and broadband networks, post, and spectrum management. Nkom reports to the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development and manages, among other things, Norway's national broadband mapping, the data behind Placepoint's Broadband coverage map layer. The regulator can require network operators to report on coverage, quality and pricing.
For a property developer or manager, broadband coverage is an increasingly important location factor. Housing projects in areas without 1 Gbit fibre coverage are often turned down by tenants and achieve lower rents. For commercial property, it is a critical infrastructure factor for office and data centre sites. Nkom publishes coverage data monthly by municipality and by provider (Telenor, Telia, Lyse, Altibox and others), and this is what the Placepoint map layer shows.
