Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat (NVE)

Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat (NVE, the Norwegian water resources and energy directorate) is the state agency for water and energy resources, and supplies a broad portfolio of risk and infrastructure data to Placepoint. The agency reports to Energidepartementet (the Ministry of Energy) and manages, among other things, the national landslide database, quick clay zones, flood hazard maps, storm surge, building prohibition zones along power lines, existing and planned grid installations, hydropower, wind power, watercourses and catchments, water bodies, protected watercourses and radon probability.

For a developer or a development department, NVE data is often decisive at the zoning stage: quick clay and landslide zones can trigger extensive stability assessments and mitigation measures; building prohibition zones along power lines set clear limits on where you can put up buildings; and flood and storm surge hazard zones can trigger requirements for a raised finished floor level or other structural solutions. NVE is also the licensing authority for power production and grid installations, and its data forms part of the map layers for risk, water and energy.

Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat (NVE) reports to Energidepartementet (ED) and is responsible for managing the country's water and energy resources. NVE also carries out the state administrative tasks within landslide prevention.
