Posten Bring
Posten Bring is the Norwegian state-owned postal and logistics group, founded in 1647 as Norges Postvesen and converted into a limited company (Posten Norge AS) in 2002, owned 100% by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The conglomerate runs Posten (post and letters), Bring (logistics and business mail) and PNX (parcel lockers and cabinets). Posten manages the official postal code and postal location data for Norway, which forms part of Placepoint's map layer for Post offices and postal locations.
The postal code register is one of Norway's most widely used base datasets: all addresses in the matrikkelen are linked to a postal code, and changes to the postal code structure (splits, mergers, a new area code) directly affect where deliveries end up and how demographic statistics are aggregated. For an estate agent or a developer, the postal code is a coarse but immediate geographical division used both in sales brochures and in market analysis. The physical post offices and post-in-shop outlets themselves are a smaller part of the map layer today, Posten has reduced the number of full-service offices over time, but the remaining locations are still reference points when assessing local services.
