Statnett
Statnett is the system operator for the Norwegian power system and owns the transmission grid, the network that carries electricity between regions and abroad. The company is wholly owned by the state through the Ministry of Energy, and decides who may connect to the transmission grid and when. To Placepoint, Statnett supplies the grid connection queue, which shows how much grid capacity is already reserved or waiting in the queue.
For a developer, this is often the decisive piece of information in the early phase of power-intensive projects such as data centres, battery factories and industry. A site may be zoned, available and well located, and still be unsuitable because the capacity at the nearest transformer station is tied up in cases ahead of you in the queue. The dataset is part of the map layer for energy.
Statnett is responsible for maintaining the balance between electricity production and consumption in Norway at all times, and owns and operates the nationwide transmission grid.
