U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is an American non-profit organisation that develops and administers LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a globally used certification system for green buildings. LEED certifications are applied to everything from single buildings and whole neighbourhoods to the operation and maintenance of existing building stock. Together with BREEAM and Svanemerket, it is one of the three major standards shown in Placepoint's Environmental Certifications dataset.
LEED is first and foremost a design tool based on a points system and energy modelling, and it is less adapted to the Nordic climate and regulatory regime than BREEAM-NOR and Svanemerket. In a Norwegian context, LEED is therefore most visible at some international corporate head offices and commercial buildings owned by American owners or with American tenants. For Placepoint users, LEED status is still relevant in ESG reporting and in projects with multinational stakeholders.
