Soil moisture
Modelled soil moisture map showing the vertical height difference in centimetres (recorded as metres in the layer name) between each terrain point and the nearest point calculated to be water saturated. Distributed to Placepoint by Geodata AS. The model is derived from hoydedata.no, Kartverket's national terrain model, and Drainage lines.
For a developer, soil moisture is a rough indicator of drainage and foundation challenges: a low value (water close to the surface) can require groundwater lowering, drainage or other measures before development, and it can also relate to flood and surface water problems. Included in Placepoint's map layer for water. Related: Drainage lines, Caution surfaces, (regulated) water, dams, Groundwater (GRANADA).
Update frequency: When the source changes.
On major changes to the terrain model.
