NADAG – ground investigations

Nasjonal database for grunnundersøkelser (NADAG), the national database for ground investigations, is a collective database of the geotechnical investigations carried out in Norway. The points on the map represent geotechnical boreholes. The amount of information attached to each point varies, depending on the format in which the data owner supplied the data. The database is run and managed by Norges geologiske undersøkelse (NGU) in cooperation with Statens vegvesen, Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat (NVE) and Bane NOR.

For a developer, NADAG saves a lot of time when assessing a site: if geotechnical investigations have already been carried out in the area, you can in many cases use these instead of ordering new drillings. This matters most in areas with quick clay, marine clay or uncertain loose masses. NGU makes no attempt to correct errors in the datasets; the responsibility rests with the data owner. For new investigations, you should include a contract clause stating that the data may be published in NADAG. The dataset is part of the Placepoint map layers for geology and risk.
