Nature and cultural areas

Compiled dataset of mapped natural and cultural landscape values in Norway, distributed by Miljødirektoratet (the Norwegian Environment Agency). The dataset combines several underlying mapping series:

  • Utvalgte kulturlandskap in agriculture, the most valuable cultural landscapes, based on cooperation between the agricultural, nature and cultural heritage authorities. The aim is long-term management through farming, land care and maintenance.
  • Verdifulle kulturlandskap, areas with recorded biological values (hay meadows, coastal heathland) and cultural historical values (old buildings, stone walls, burial cairns).
  • DN-håndbok 13, nature type localities on land and in fresh water, classified by nature type, form and nature conservation value.
  • DN-håndbok 19, marine biological diversity, using the same system as DN-13 for sea and ocean areas.
  • Naturtyper etter Miljødirektoratets instruks, red-listed nature types and nature types with a central ecosystem function.

For a developer, the dataset is one of the most important checks at the planning stage: localities with a high nature conservation value trigger hensynssoner (consideration zones), konsekvensutredning (impact assessment) and often mitigating measures. Included in Placepoint's map layer for nature.
