Radonaktsomhet

Areas in Norway that are likely more exposed to radon than others, based on the national indoor air measurement database of Statens strålevern (NRPA, the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority) and the bedrock and loose masses databases of NGU. Distributed to Placepoint by Geodata AS. Radon is a radioactive gas that seeps up through the ground and can build up indoors, one of the most important single causes of lung cancer in Norway after smoking.

For developers and design teams, the radon map is a mandatory check: buildings on radon-exposed plots must be designed with a radon barrier in the ground and ventilation ducts under TEK17 § 13-5. For estate agents and valuers, this is information that belongs in the sales prospectus and the valuation. The dataset is often read together with Radon sannsynlighet (a parallel model from NVE), Bedrock and Loose masses. It is part of Placepoint's map layer for risk.
