Places name

Geographic names from across Norway: village names, farm names, mountains, lakes, fjords, city districts, streets and town names, based on Kartverket's combined map series, economic cartography and nautical charts. The dataset powers the search function and the map labels in Placepoint, and it is an important part of the user experience when you are looking for areas where you do not know the official matrikkel or address lookup.

The place names are managed by Kartverket as the national naming authority under stedsnavnloven, the Norwegian place names act. Alongside Adresseregisteret, the address register, this is the most important search source in the map.

Update frequency: real time.

Maintained continuously by Kartverket and visible in Placepoint immediately.
