Shoreline management zone
State planning guidelines for differentiated management of the shoreline management zone along the sea. The dataset shows how strictly the general building ban in the 100 metre belt along the coast is to be enforced in each municipality. Municipalities have been assigned different management regimes, the most restrictive in the Oslofjorden, somewhat more lenient along Vestlandet and in Nord-Norge. The ban on measures in the shoreline management zone is set out in section 1-8 of the Planning and Building Act and detailed further in the differentiated planning guidelines.
For a developer, the dataset is a mandatory check for coastal development: an exemption from the building ban can be hard to obtain, particularly in zone 1 (Oslofjorden), and requires specific justification in a zoning plan or exemption application. The dataset is supplied by Kartverket. Related: Sea depth (bathymetry) for the coastal contour, Outdoor recreation areas for the recreation values that the shoreline management zone often also covers.
