Grid connection queue
Capacity in the transmission grid that is tied up in Statnett's connection cases, aggregated per substation. The dataset shows how much capacity is reserved or queued at each point, how many cases compete for the same substation, the largest single case and the next planned connection. The position of the substations comes from NVE's grid installations.
Statnett distinguishes between cases that are requested, reserved, placed in a capacity queue and connected. The queue contains only customers that are mature enough to take a place, and a project that has been granted capacity on special terms also sits in the ordinary queue.
For a developer, this is an early-stage filter for power-intensive projects such as data centres, battery factories and electrified industry. A site can be zoned and available, and still be unsuitable because the capacity at the nearest substation is already tied up. The dataset also shows who competes for the same point, and which industries they belong to. Part of Placepoint's map layer for energy. The point on the map is the substation, not the project site. Statnett registers the cases manually from 2018 onwards, so gaps can occur.

How the dataset appears on the map
The dataset is part of the Energy map layer. Each circle is a substation. The size follows the tied-up capacity in MW, and the color shows what the substation has most of:
| Color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Red | Both queue and reservations at the same substation |
| Orange | Cases in the queue |
| Yellow | Reserved capacity |
| Blue | Connected cases only |
| Grey | History, everything has been withdrawn |

Click a substation to see the tied-up capacity split by queued, reserved, connected and withdrawn, the number of cases, the industry types competing, the largest single case with customer, the next planned connection, the price area and the county.
