Traffic volume

Representative traffic volume (annual average daily traffic, ÅDT) for road sections in Norway, based on recorded vehicle passes in the categories car, articulated lorry, tractor and motorised equipment. ÅDT is the total traffic on a section during a calendar year, divided by the number of days. The dataset comes from the Nasjonal vegdatabank (NVDB), the national road database held by Statens vegvesen, the Norwegian public roads administration.

For a developer, traffic volume is key context in many situations: a high ÅDT triggers a requirement for a noise assessment under guideline T-1442, can call for mitigating measures such as facade insulation, and affects the choice of construction methods to manage vibration. For a commercial agent, ÅDT is one of the most important single indicators when valuing retail property and petrol station sites. Included in Placepoint's map layer for transport and communications.
