Road transport – classes & constraints
Detailed dataset for heavy transport planning from the Nasjonal vegdatabank (NVDB), the national road database run by Statens vegvesen (the Norwegian Public Roads Administration). Includes:
- Load classes (bruksklasser) for different vehicle types: timber transport (articulated vehicles up to 24 m and 60 tonnes on selected routes), mobile cranes (vegliste 12/65), modular vehicle combinations (vegliste 12/100), special transport (12/100 with an exemption) and normal transport. The lists are updated twice a year.
- Barriers : physical road closures used for avalanche risk, tunnels or high mountain passes.
- Rest areas, control and weighing stations, ferry quays, daily rest facilities : infrastructure set up for heavy transport.
- Bridges, tunnels, height restrictions, level crossings, toll stations : obstacles that affect accessibility.
- Speed limits : the maximum permitted speed on each section.
For a developer working with logistics or industrial property, load classes are decisive: a warehouse property without access along a road certified for articulated vehicles is practically impossible to serve. For a residential developer the dataset is less relevant to the property itself, but it can indicate the quality of the local road network. Included in Placepoint's map layers for transport and communications and infrastructure. Related: Road category, authority & speed limit, Bridges.
Update frequency: Weekly.
