Building panel
The building panel is a focused view of one building. You open it from the Building tab in the property panel or by clicking a building directly in the map. The property panel covers the whole matrikkelenhet, while the data in the building panel is limited to this one building: technical status, floor structure, housing units and change history.

All the tabs in the building panel
The video opens Tordenskiolds gate 2 from search, goes to the Property tab and the Buildings sub-tab, clicks the office building and goes through the four tabs and sub-tabs of the building panel: Overview, Sections and Units, Building statuses and ESG.
- Search for the address and select the hit in Oslo. The property panel opens; drag it wider.
- Property, then Buildings. Click the building in the list. The building panel takes over the panel, with the building number at the top.
- Sections and Units: Hierarchy, Sections and Usage units.
- Building statuses: the building and the extension, each with its registered statuses.
- ESG: the energy label, Enova and TEK.
- Back at the top of the panel takes you back to the property panel.
Duration: 1 minute and 13 seconds. The tabs depend on the building: a building without sections only shows the usage units, and ESG appears when there is an energy label or a certification.
Top of the panel
At the top you see a photo of the building (Google Street View where available) and:
- Building no. - the national building number from Matrikkelen (the Norwegian cadastre). It stays stable across changes of ownership and matrikkel changes.
- New tag - add a tag directly to the building. See Tags.
- Energy Label - show an existing energy certificate or add a manual certificate.
At the top of the panel: Back to the property panel, the building number with a copy button, Zoom to and Close. You can make the panel wider by dragging the left edge.
Tabs
The panel has four tabs: Overview, Sections and Units, Building statuses and ESG. The sections below describe the content as it was organised before the change; the fields still exist, spread across the four tabs.
Building
Technical data from Matrikkelen. The set of fields varies with the building type. Commercial buildings have an extended family of fields with floor height, UFA per function and ventilation. Typical fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Building Type | For example detached house, office building, warehouse |
| Status | For example building has been taken into use |
| Floor area | Total UFA in m² |
| Usable area for housing | Housing UFA in m² |
| Origin | Ordinary registration / Historic |
| Water supply | Public / Private |
| Industry Group | Housing / Business / Holiday and others |
| Energy source | Electricity, district heating, biofuel and others |
| Heating | Electric, heat pump and others |
| Floor data | Number of housing units, number of floors |
Below the field list you see the building statuses: a chronological list of status events from Matrikkelen, for example:
01/01/1964 - Building has been taken into use14/08/2015 - Change of use approved
For older buildings, it is common that only the first date of use is registered.
Contacts
Contact persons and responsible parties linked to the building. The content varies a lot: empty for most residential buildings, but well populated for commercial buildings under active management.
For commercial buildings, the tab can contain:
- Owner / owning company - taken from Brønnøysundregistrene (BRREG) through the ownership chain to gnr/bnr.
- Manager / operations lead - registered manually or centrally by Placepoint.
- Tenant representatives - for larger commercial buildings with many tenants.
- Developer - for buildings under construction or recently taken over.
Add a contact with the + button at the top. Manually registered contacts are visible to all project members with access.
Floors
A list of floors with type and floor number:
- U1 - basement floor
- H1 - first floor / main floor
- H2, H3, ... - other floors
- L1 - attic
Show in table opens a wider view with columns for floor use area, number of rooms and number of flats. + adds a floor manually, which is useful for older buildings where Matrikkelen lacks data, or for new builds at the design stage. Click a floor row to edit it in the side panel.
Units
Housing units registered on this building, limited to the building. This matches the Units tab in the property panel, but only shows the units that belong to this building. It is useful for properties with several buildings where you want to see the split per building.
Compact view:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Type | Housing / Business / Holiday Home / Garage / Other |
| No. | Housing unit number (H0101, K0101 and so on) |
| UFA | Use area in m² |
| Energy | Energy label, if registered |
Show all opens the full table with number of rooms, WC, bathrooms, kitchen access and a flag for units that are due to be removed. See Units and Tenants for a full field description.
Tenants
The change log for the building. The sources are:
- Matrikkel changes - construction, demolition, extensions, status changes, change of use.
- Building case changes from the municipality's case records, linked to the building number.
- Manual notes entered by project members.
- Status events - when the building was put into operation, closed down or demolished.
Each event is shown with a date, a type (Matrikkel / case records / manual / system-logged) and a short description or a link to the source document.
An empty change log is normal for older residential buildings with no digital building case history. Around 70% of Norwegian buildings have no changes logged after the first registration. For continuous tracking, set up Monitoring on the project so you get an alert when something new appears.
Typical use cases
Assessing an extension or an added storey. Click the building from the Building tab in the property panel, open the Building tab for status and category, Floors to see where there is space, and Tenants for earlier building cases. Combine this with Zoning Plans as a map layer to see what the plan allows.
Finding tenants in a commercial building. Click the building, open Units for vacant and occupied housing units, and Contacts for a manager to contact. Go back to the property panel and open the Tenants tab to see which companies actually rent. Click a tenant to open the company profile. See Units and Tenants for details about the tenant panel.
Older buildings with sparse matrikkel data. Many buildings from before 1980 show "Unknown" for several fields. Use + on Floors and Units to add what you know. The data is saved in the project.
Sources
- Kartverket (Matrikkelen) for building status, building type, area, floor data and housing units.
- The Enova register for energy certificates.
- The municipality (case records) for building case history in the Tenants tab.
Tips
- The building number is stable across changes of ownership and matrikkel changes. Use it as the reference in archive links and documentation where the address may have changed.
- For commercial buildings with many housing units: open Show all and export to a spreadsheet so you can work with all the units at once (leases, UFA totals, energy class distribution).
- The energy label is stored against the building, not against individual units. For mixed use buildings, this gives a coarser resolution than the individual Enova certificates. Verify against the Enova register when precision is critical.
- Cannot find the right property through the building? Search for the property (not the building) and navigate to the building from there. This often happens because the matrikkelenhet has been merged or split after the building was registered.
