Map

Map is the last tab in Settings and controls how much of your machine's capacity goes to the map, and how the background map and navigation layer are drawn. The tab only appears when you are in the map.

Performance

Performance mode is a single choice that sets everything else:

ModeWhen to choose it
High qualityBest image. Uses more GPU memory and can feel slower on less powerful machines
AutoLowers quality when the map struggles and raises it again when it runs smoothly
PerformancePrioritises a fast map on less powerful machines
CustomYou control each setting yourself

Custom opens the rows below: quality profile for 3D, atmosphere, stars, shadows, camera and sunlight, and an option for a high-resolution background map. The last one fetches the sharper map where it exists, and costs more to download and draw.

If Auto is on and your machine is under pressure, quality is lowered temporarily. Your choice is kept and returns once the map has room again.

The Hardware requirements and performance guidance row at the bottom opens System Requirements, which is the place to start when the map does not appear at all.

Background Map

OptionWhat it does
Same map in 2D/3DKeeps the same background map when you switch between 2D and 3D
Navigation layer typeWhich layer you navigate on: matrikkelenheter, buildings or none
Navigation layer highlightHighlights the property or building you hover over
Cadastre BordersDraws the property boundaries in the map

The navigation layer is the layer you click to open an object. If you set it to None, no boundaries are drawn and you save your machine some work, but then you have to find your way via Search instead of clicking in the map.

If the map is slow when you move the mouse pointer, Navigation layer highlight is the first button to switch off. It calculates colouring for every object you pass over.
