Active Layers
A map layer you add appears in the Map layer popover in the top right of the map. Click the Map layer button to open it. The popover lists all active layers, with Add map layers at the top so you can add more.
How to switch on a map layer
- Click the Map layer button in the top right of the map.
- Click Add map layers to open the catalogue.
- Select a category in the list on the left (for example Property or Demographics), or search for a layer at the top.
- Click Add on the layer. The layer is drawn on the map straight away and appears in the popover.
How to control an active layer
Each row in the popover has an on/off toggle on the right that hides or shows the layer without removing it, and a menu under the three dots:

| View legend | Shows the colour codes and symbols the layer uses on the map. |
| Remove from menu | Takes the layer off the map. You can add it again through Add map layers or the catalogue. |
Sublayers
Many map layers consist of several layers. Zoning Plans, for example, draws plan boundaries, land use areas, hazard zones and labels as separate sublayers, and Municipal plans has 14. A layer with sublayers has an arrow in front of the name and a number showing how many of the sublayers are on. Click the row to expand it.
- Each sublayer has its own toggle. Switch off the ones you do not need, and the map becomes easier to read.
- A sublayer that has sublayers of its own appears as a group with a toggle that is on, off or partly on.
- The first time you switch the layer on, its sublayers follow the layer's default setup. Some layers have only some of their sublayers switched on at the start.
- Your choice is remembered for the next time you switch the layer on.
- The legend follows the sublayers you have switched on.
The sublayers each layer has are listed under Sublayers on the map layer pages, and in the detail pane in the catalogue. The figures for the whole catalogue are in Placepoint in numbers.
About the map layer
Hover over a row, and an i button appears. Click it to see what the layer shows, who supplies the data, how often it is updated, and a link to the layer's page here in the help pages. The same button sits next to each heading in the legend.
Data
Coming soon!
The info card will get the same Data section as the detail pane in the catalogue: what the data is based on, when it was last changed at the source, and how often the layer is updated. What each line means is explained under What the Data section tells you.
