Projects
A project is a workspace you create around a specific task: an acquisition process, a portfolio review, a tenant search or the mapping of a retail market. The datasets you upload, the bookmarks you save and the 3D models you work with belong to the project, and everyone you share it with sees the same thing.
The project page
The project page shows every project you have access to, as cards with a thumbnail of the map, a country flag and who created it. From here you open a project, create a new one and manage sharing.

- Show selects what the list shows: all projects, the private ones, those shared with you personally, or one of the organisations you are a member of.
- Created by filters on who created the project, and Country on country, so you can show only the Swedish ones.
- Sort sorts on last used, name, created or changed, and the search field searches in name and description.
- The star on the card makes a project a favourite. Your favourites sit in a separate row at the top and are personal.
- The buttons to the right of the search switch between grid and list.
If your account has only one project, Placepoint Fusion skips the project page and opens the map directly. You then also do not see the project menu in the left menu until you get access to more projects.
Creating a project
- Click New private project at the top right of the project page, or use the arrow next to it to create it in an organisation, see Sharing and access.
- Fill in Name. Description is optional.
- Select country. Norway is the default, and the country cannot be changed afterwards.
- Click create. The project opens immediately.
The project menu in the left menu
At the bottom of the left menu, a card shows the name of the active project. Click the card to open the project menu.

| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Edit project | Change the name, description and sharing. Only the owner and co-owners can do this. |
| Remove project | Hides the project from everyone who has access. Only the owner can remove a project, see What is stored, where and for how long. |
| Back to projects | Opens the project page, where you select another project. |
When you switch project, the map and all project panels update immediately, and the map returns to the view you last looked at in that project.
What a project contains
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| Datasets | The lists you upload from Excel, linked to matrikkel or address and drawn on the map. A dataset belongs to one project, and everyone with access to the project sees it with the same styling and filters. |
| Bookmarks | Saved map views, in 2D and 3D, collected in folders. |
| 3D models | The models and IFC files you work with in 3D-Designer. |
| The map setup | Background Map and where the map was last positioned, per project. |
Tags do not belong to the project. They are shared across your whole organisation, so a property you tag in one project has the tag in all of them.
Properties, areas and activities
Coming soon
Properties will be the list of the properties you follow in the project, Areas the polygons you draw as a geographic frame, and Activities the log of notes and tasks. Until they are released, Tags holds the portfolio and a dataset holds the list.
What is stored, where and for how long
Everything you put in a project is stored with us, not in your browser. You can log in from another machine and find the same content, and the colleagues you share with see the same as you. The content is kept separate per business, and access follows your Placepoint user.
This is what is stored in the project:
- Name, description and country.
- The datasets with all their rows, and the Excel file you uploaded.
- Bookmarks with folders, and the 3D models with the files they came from.
- Who the project is shared with, who the owner is, and who has it as a favourite.
- The thumbnail on the project card, which is your most recent map view.
Two things sit in your browser and do not follow you to another machine: where the map was last positioned in each project, and the column setup you have chosen in the tables.
Nothing is deleted automatically, and a project has no expiry date. We keep the change history, so it is possible to see what was changed and when. Remove project hides the project from everyone, and the same applies to a dataset you delete: the content disappears from Placepoint Fusion, but remains with us. If you removed the wrong project, contact us.
The number of projects follows your licence. If you see a counter for how many projects you have used, and your agreement allows more, let us know and we will adjust it. The limits for datasets are on Datasets.
Sharing and access
A project is private until you share it with your organisation. All members then see the project and can work in it, with the datasets, bookmarks and models it holds. You choose this when you create the project, or afterwards in Edit project.
Whoever creates the project is the owner. The owner and co-owners change the name, description and sharing, and only the owner can remove the project. If an administrator removes a user from the organisation, the projects that user created remain, see Members.
Who gets to see personal data is governed by the account and not by the project. Access to Grunnboken, the Norwegian land register, and to owner information is the same in a shared project as in your own, see Integration and security.
Sharing with individuals
You invite one person at the email address they use in Placepoint Fusion. The address can belong to another organisation, so a project can be shared with an adviser or a client who has their own Placepoint account. The recipient finds the project under Shared with me, can edit the content, but cannot delete the project or change who has access.
Getting data out of Placepoint
These are all the ways to download or export, collected in one place. Most give Excel. The format is listed in the table, and the link goes to the page that describes the button.
| Where | What you get | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Datasets | The rows in a dataset, either as the table looks now with your column choices and filters, or the whole dataset as it was uploaded. If you have selected rows on the map, only those are exported. | Excel |
| Units and tenants | The tenant list for a property, with organisation number, all or the filtered ones. | Excel |
| Land register | The land register extract for a property from Land registers in the property panel, as a file or plain text, and the matrikkel report as an order. | PDF, text |
| Map layer | The results table for a map layer, with the rows in the visible map view, on map layers where download is enabled. | CSV |
| The map | Screenshot gives an image of the map, to a file or the clipboard. Print gives the map in 2D, fitted to paper size and scale. | PNG, PDF |
| Analyze | The table below an analysis, from Export. | Excel |
| Filter | The hits in the filter with the columns you have chosen, with or without the supporting tables, up to 10,000 rows. If you select rows yourself, the cap does not apply. | Excel |
| Reports | The report for a property as a document. | |
| The Agent | The list behind an answer, when you ask for it. | Excel, CSV |
| Placepoint AI | Answer, table, map, dashboard or report in Claude, and extracts of lists. | Excel, CSV, PDF |
| Placepoint API | The data straight into your own systems, with no download. | JSON |
Analyze, Filter and Reports are marked Coming soon on their own pages, and the Agent is in pilot. None of these routes gives GIS formats such as SOSI, Shapefile, GeoJSON or KML, and none gives DWG or IFC out. Coming in, we take Excel as a dataset and IFC in 3D-Designer. Import, export and sharing answers the most common questions about this. Files over 5,000 rows open slowly in Excel. How to split a large extract.
Common workflows
Acquisition and investment screening. Create a project, upload the candidate list as a dataset, tag the most relevant ones using Tags, and save the map views you return to as bookmarks.
Tenant search. Create a project for the vacant property, tag qualified candidates, and export the tenant lists to Excel when the dialogue needs to leave Placepoint.
Portfolio follow-up. Create one project per portfolio or fund, share it with the organisation, and add the portfolio as a dataset so everyone sees the same map. Analyse and Reports give the basis for periodic reporting.
Tips
- Give projects clear names. You will have many of them over time.
- Use the favourite star on the projects you visit every week, so you find them again under Favorites.
- Share with the organisation when several people are to work in the same project.
