Report: Community statistics

The Demographics map layers in the map

Community statistics shows population and growth for all Norwegian municipalities and basic statistical units: how many people live there today, how the figure has developed since 1951, and what SSB expects towards 2050. Intended for anyone who needs a growth picture behind a location assessment, a retail analysis or a housing project.

What the report shows

Tab: Population figures

Key figures for the current year and the change from the year before: population, excess of births, net immigration and net internal migration. You choose two geographical levels and see them side by side, for example a basic statistical unit against the municipality it sits in.

Tab: Population projections

A map of Norway with one bubble per municipality for the period 2020-2050: blue for growth, red for decline. The projections are SSB's, not Placepoint's, and the main alternative is used as the basis.

The levels

LevelWhat you get
MunicipalityPopulation, the components behind the change, and a projection to 2050.
Basic statistical unitPopulation and development for the smallest official geographical level, which is the level a property actually sits in.

The history goes back to 1951 where SSB has published figures for the area. Because of municipality mergers, older series can be missing for municipalities that did not exist at the time.

Community statistics or Demographics

Community statistics answers how many and which way things are going. Demographics answers who: age, household, income and housing conditions in the basic statistical unit around a selected property.
